Why I love this recipe:
- The Bread – Brioche bread is traditional French bread made with more butter and egg yolks then regular French bread, for a soft texture and sweet, rich buttery flavor. Truly, the brioche bread is the star of this recipe so be sure to look for it in the bakery section of the store, made with real butter and eggs. If you don’t see it there, you can find lesser quality brioche near the regular sandwich breads, that will work.
- Custard-like Batter – The cream and flour in this recipe help create a really creamy, custard-like sauce that makes excellent french toast. (Flour is my secret ingredient in traditional French Toast as well, for this same reason).
- Toppings – For a truly elevated experience, make our EASY Homemade syrup and serve with fresh fruit, and a spoonful of whipped cream.
How to make Brioche French Toast:
Preheat Griddle: Heat to 350 degrees F or heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Blend Ingredients: Add all ingredients, except the bread, to a blender or to a shallow dish then whisk well to combine. If whisking by hand, it’s okay if the flour doesn’t mix in completely smooth.
Dip Bread and Cook: After greasing the griddle with butter, dip the bread into the batter on both sides and place on hot pan. Cook for a few minutes, until the bottom of the bread starts to get golden brown. Flip and cook on the other side the same.
Serve this easy brioche french toast warm, with syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar or whipped cream and a side of fresh berries.

Simply amazing! The first French toast recipe that really works for me and it didn’t make my bread soggy. The best thing is to blend everything instead of whisking made tons of difference.
Thanks!
🤤
The brioche was on sale and I was looking for a recipe. It is delicious! Very tasty. Especially the vanilla to cinnamon ratio. Mom told me to write the recipe down so I can make it again! Thanks again for sharing this amazing recipe! I will definitely be making again!

Can I substitute half & half for the cream?
Yes that will work!
Hello, what kind of cream?
Heavy cream!
Can you use milk instead of cream?
That’s one thing I don’t have
Yes, that’s fine.
We are not big French toast eaters especially my daughter. Brioche bread is so tasty in this recipe. She tried it today and said I need to make it more often. Her son, my grandson is pretty picky and he ate a piece and a half and he is only 3. He loved greemaws pound cake. Apparently he thought he was eating dessert! We served it with fresh cherries. Thanks for the amazing recipe!
My husband makes the best French Toast, but he is always looking to “perfect” his recipe. I wondered about the flour also. It is an interesting secret ingredient.
Anyway, my question is: how thick do you cut the bread slices? The picture looks like it is about 1/2 inch. He remembers going to a restaurant when he was a child, and the Toast was “thick and custardy in the middle.” He described “thick” to be about 1 inch.
Thank you, Lauren! We have been enjoying all of your recipes!
Dotty
Thanks Dotty! I like the slices really thick as well, you can do them however thick or thin you want!
Looks delicious!!
Looks amazing. I’m making this today! What is the purpose of the flour? This is the first time I have seen flour in a French toast recipe.
It’s my secret ingredient! It makes is more of a “batter” and not so watery when dipping the bread.
Wasn’t a big french toast guy until I tried this recipe. Incredible! I couldn’t stop eating it. Everything about this recipe works. It’s easy and delicious. Thanks for the recipe.
